You’ve had the labs done. You were told everything looks normal.
And yet – you still exhausted.
Your symptoms are unexplained and you’ve been given no answers or solutions. You wake up tired, rely on caffeine to function, feel foggy or inflamed, and don’t recognize your body the way you used to. You may have even started questioning yourself:
Is this just stress? Is this normal? Is this just aging?
If this sounds familiar, you’re not imagining things – and you’re not alone.
This is one of the most common reasons people seek out functional medicine for chronic fatigue.
Normal labs don’t always mean optimal health
Conventional lab interpretation is designed to identify disease, with most labs based on population averages – not on what supports optimal health for you.
This means:
- You can be technically “in normal range” and still have symptoms
- Early dysfunction often shows up before labs cross a diagnostic threshold
- Subtle imbalances can be missed when labs are looked at in isolation instead of in context of your whole body and other symptoms
In other words, a lab result can look “normal” on paper while your body is clearly asking for support.
The functional medicine approach to chronic fatigue
The human body is incredibly adaptive. When something is off- nutrients, hormones, blood sugar, or too much stress- the body will compensate for as long as it can.
Symptoms like persistent fatigue, brain fog, “puffiness” or inflammation, poor sleep, anxiety or low mood are often early warning signs. They suggest your body is working harder than it should to maintain balance.
Functional medicine looks at the body as an interconnected system rather than isolated parts.
Instead of asking Is this lab abnormal?
We ask:
- Are these lab values optimal?
- Why are these symptoms happening?
- What systems are out of balance?
- What is your body compensating for?
- What patterns explain your symptoms?
By combining labs, symptoms, history, and lifestyle factors, we can often uncover why fatigue persists even when labs appear normal.
You’re not broken – your body is communicating
Chronic fatigue is a signal, not a failure.
Symptoms provide useful information about how the body is functioning. When we approach them with curiosity rather than dismissal, they can offer insight into what systems may need support.
At Greener Roots, I work with patients who are tired of being told they’re “fine” when they clearly don’t feel that way.
Through a personalized, root-cause approach, together we explore what’s driving your symptoms and create a plan that supports the whole system-mind and body.
